Sounds for Dream Sequence

We had to think about some of the sounds that would fit with the overall feel of our film, here's a few things I came up with...

THE DREAM

This first sound is the sound of a creepy violin. I thought this would be perfect for the part of our film where Alex is still in the dream and her best friend Samantha jumps out at her, covered in blood. I thought that if this kind of music would kick in when Sam jumps on screen, as it would start to build up suspense and create a scary atmosphere for the rest of the scene. Also, it should make the audience jump, which would then create a scary sense and make them more on edge for the rest of the film.

The next sound I thought would fit in our film is the sound of someone playing guitar crazily. Like the first violin riff, I thought this sound clip would fit in somewhere within the dream, as this is the part of the film that we are keeping the scariest and these kind of sounds will keep making the audience in suspense and on edge, so there sat on the edge of there seat (or hiding behind a pillow) for the next scary bit. (Hopefully).

This next sound really gets to me. Like, makes me cringe. I think that even the sound alone would make an audience squirm in their seats, so coupled with a few creepy or scary visual aids I think it would be very effective for the film overall. Because this sounds is so horrifying, it would definitely be something i would consider for the dream side of the film.
Now this sound is more of a sound effect than something to add to the musical effect, and although the 'creaky door' is a classic sound effect for the Horror genre, I don't think it would fit in with the atmosphere of our film. With any other horror film involving scary indoor locations, a elongated creaky door sound effect would be perfect to build up suspense, but for our film, i think it would sound very out of place and make the audience lose the illusion of the film.

The first three are non-diegetic sounds, which means that the sound can only be heard by the audience, and is used just to illustrate the mood or action happening on screen. The last one, the sound effect, is diegetic, as it is something that the characters in the film will hear and react to.
